Welcome to The Crown Inn at Wrinehill. Est. 1977
A true award winning country freehouse in the picturesque village of Wrinehill situated on the border of Staffordshire and Cheshire. We promise you a warm welcome, six real ales, legendary home cooked food and in the cooler months a roaring fire!
‘The Crown Inn’ is situated in the small village of Wrinehill near to Betley, 6 miles to the south of Crewe and 6 miles to the north of Newcastle-Under-Lyme. Wrinehill itself is located on the A531 which links the A500 (junction 16 M6) to North Staffordshire. The pub is situated just off the A531 and is well signposted from the main road.
Originally a 19th century coaching inn, ‘The Crown’ has prospered as a drinking hostelry ever since. Charles and Sue Davenhill purchased the pub back in 1977 from Bass brewery and it has since been converted back to an open plan building with traditional oak beams and its famous ingle-nook housing the large roaring open fire, which is very welcome on a cold winter’s night. In 2001, Charles and Sue’s daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Mark Condliffe joined the family firm and this partnership continued successfully until 2012. At this point, Charles, who was reputedly the longest serving licensee in Staffordshire, pulled his last pint and decided to retire! Mark and Anna are now the sole proprietors of ‘The Crown’ and continue to uphold the traditional family values that have made this business so successful.
Mark, the licensee, is very proud of ‘The Crown’s’ reputation for good beer. We are a CASKMARQUE awarded free house and have also won ‘The Taste of Staffordshire Good Food Awards – Real Ale Award'; ‘CAMRA’s pub of the month’ and the ‘Beautiful Beer – Platinum Award’; we are the only pub in Staffordshire to have achieved this accreditation. There is always a choice of six traditional cask ales, one of which is a regularly changing regional guest beer as well as ‘Legend’, our own ale that supports the worthy ‘Help the Heroes’ charity with 10 pence of every pint going directly to this great cause!
Anna works alongside the Head Chef, Steve Emeny, and their team to produce meals that blend the traditional with more contemporary choices. The fact that ‘The Crown Inn’ has been established as a Freehouse by the same family for over 30 years is paramount to its success. The interest and dedication of the owners and all the staff ensures that high standards are maintained and that the experience of visiting ‘The Crown Inn at Wrinehill’ is certainly one to remember!
